Due to the COVID-19 situation, Austin ISD has cancelled classes and all district events for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year, so unfortunately, we will not be able to host the 2020 Summer Reading Splash event this year. However, we are excited to encourage all students to continue reading throughout the summer!
For some fun book recommendations, please check out one or more of our 5 Book Dive suggested reading lists that are posted on this website. We have six lists to choose from: K-2 (English), K-2 (Spanish), 3-5 (English), 3-5 (Spanish), 6-8, and 9-12. Many of these titles, plus thousands more, are available as ebooks; if you have any questions about how to access ebooks through your school district or public library, please reach out to your campus librarian for more information. We look forward to next year's Splash, and wish you all a safe summer full of good reads! We had such a blast at the Summer Reading Splash 2019! Thank you again to everyone who came out and joined in the fun sessions, improv, game show and more! We hope you have some ideas of awesome books to read this summer and stories to create!

As part of an initiative to foster literacy and stop the summer slide through a focus on summer reading, BookPeople officially partnered with AISD in 2017 to amplify the district's Five Book Dive, a citywide reading challenge promoted all summer long through curated reading lists and program bookmarks.Last year, we took it to the next level with the inaugural 5 Book Dive Summer Reading Splash! Now we're back and ready for MORE fun programming with these incredible authors to kick off summer 2019!
GIVING BACK:
As in the past, BookPeople will continue the tradition of giving a $5 gift card to any young reader who completes the 5 book reading challenge over the summer. And to support reading all summer long, we will donate 1,000 books to AISD Library's Buford the Book Bus program, which gives out free books during the summer. Find more detailed information here.

A collaboration between the Austin ISD Libraries, BookPeople, and the Austin Public Library, the 2018 Summer Reading Splash will feature author panels, hands-on activities, book signings, and more. The Splash programming will focus on readers in grades 3-6, but the 5 Book Dive Summer Reading Program will continue this year for students of every age. Keynote speaker Kate DiCamillo will open the festival. With heart and hope and plenty of gumption, Raymie Nightingale, Louisiana Elefante, and Beverly Tapinski prove exceptionally steadfast companions for adventure. Drawing from her own childhood, this is Kate DiCamillo's most personal work to date and an excellent choice for summer reading.
